Art deco style has been making a resurgence. Just look on the shelves at Target.

This modern style originated in Paris and took off from there in the 1920s and 30s. It presents modernism turned into fashion. This streamlined and geometric approach was in direct contrast to the dripping opulence of the Edwardian era, yet no less extravagant.

Some of the notable furniture designers of the time included Jacques Ruhlmann and Maurice Dufrene.

Furniture of the period looked simple when viewed from afar, but come close and  you could see the intricate cutaways, layers, and details.
