I’m proud to introduce a new series on this blog, called Design Hotspot.
In these posts I will introduce you to local establishments that are doing it right. Not only are they bringing you great products and customer service, but they also have an incredible design aesthetic.
First up is Verve Coffee Roasters in Santa Cruz, CA.
I had heard about Verve from a friend of mine and I knew that I had to try it when I was in the area. I went in for the coffee, but of course the first thing I noticed was the decor!
You can tell the care that was put into designing Verve even before you step inside. The mixture of metal and wood accents, along with the sliding door create a homey yet beachy feel that is just a perfect representation of Santa Cruz.
Verve home-roast their own coffee in the back, and the smell is just out of this world. It doesn’t matter how busy they are, the baristas smile at you like you are the first person who has walked in their door that day.
I am immediately drawn to all of the different wooden accents around the whole place, with different colored wood used for the ceiling, shelves, tables and countertops.
Pretty much everything in there has a rustic, “found on the beach” feel, without being run-down or overly hipster. They brought the whole aesthetic together with their lighting, which mimicked the metal on wood that was found outside.
I really love the combination of hanging lights and round light fixtures. The turquoise chairs bring in the brightness of the ocean, which is so appropriate in Santa Cruz.
P.S. The coffee was excellent!
Verve Coffee Roasters has 4 locations in Santa Cruz alone. I went to the Pacific Avenue location (1540 Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA).
